Journaling June - Day 6
Journaling June
Day 6 I didn't get a run in this morning, although I suppose I could have, but I had an item to post and I was keen to do that before any rain might fall, since I would be going out on my bike. It was an old Core2duo motherboard 'bundle' I'd sold on ebay; I'd had it for a number of years, probably taking part in SETI@home, but was of little use to me now, although I did consider using it for a Windows XP build, but I have enough of those. I gave it another final power on test before packaging it, so hopefully it arrives in good order and is still reliable for proper use, and I don't end up with ebay karma from the couple of ebay refunds I received this week...
Back at home after the short ride I prepared my breakfast of coffee and nuts and watched this entertaining and well put together video by VWestlife about cassette mechanisms. On the face of it you might think it's just a simple video about him talking about something of interest but I can appreciate that it was a lot more involving than that. Sometimes he records an entire video on an old camera, yet once your brain forgets that they're perfectly watchable, and again, well put together. I can't help but roll my eyes at people who insist on either recording things in 4K or complaining when they find that isn't an option for viewing; I rarely watch anything on Youtube or Rumble at anything above 360p (and yes on a computer screen rather than a phone where 4K would matter even less), my eyes don't need the detail and my data usage doesn't need the hit. Speaking of data usage. I recently switched services, now paying a small amount more but getting 60GB instead of 50GB per month to use, and it has made a huge difference. It's weird but basically the old amount was right at the threshold of being enough for my daily usage. Usage will go up when "einstein@home" season starts, but it should be far more manageable I think. Anyway, I go on and did some yoga I should have done before (since I didn't go for that run). I intended to finally tidy my kitchen but instead tried to record a 'podcast'; something I haven't done for some weeks, with one of the conversations I'd had with ChatGPT. I normally use an old phone to record them but tried to use my actual phone so that I could put the text on the screen and scroll through it with a bluetooth keyboard I have knocking about. It turned out whenever I switched from OpenCamera to the document the recording would stop. It took me a while to finally figure it out and get OpenCamera positioned in a small window that I could move out of the way... then my time was up and I had to go and visit my neighbour with whom I have a workout session. I ended up being quite talkative during the session; it's normally him that talks all the way through, and I wondered later if it had been partly due to me trying to record the vlog just before; like a warm up for my voice and associated regions of my brain - I'll have to try this again next week, although actually having some things to talk about (that another person might want to listen to) does help. Back home and I had a sit down outside with a cup of tea while I worked through some book notes, since the sun had made an appearance and I didn't want to miss it. Back inside I then set about tidying my kitchen whilst I had an hour-long podcast playing. It's a good tactic for cracking on with something for an hour and my kitchen table and the surrounding floor is finally free of clutter, for now; I'm terrible at not putting things away... |
