Journaling June - Day 2
2nd June 2026

I typed this all up on my trusty AlphaSmart 3000 it took a while... I'll highlight a few things and leave some placeholders because I haven't got time to add in things I want to add:

Journaling June Day 2
----------------------
Today was a busy one for me. I'd elected to not sleep in my tent, partly because it had been raining on it all day previously.

I woke well with my alarm, having had some school-related dreams. It seems somewhat odd to still have this when now in my 40's, but I guess some things just don't get resolved. I wasn't actually at school in the dream, but I had returned to the area (as an adult) and found myself having a discussion with a lad about some misunderstandings. In part of my dream I was in my car, but someone else was driving, and somewhat too fast round bends; I've always found it curious about driving dreams, which car I'm in and who is driving. I consider the 'being a passenger' as a reflection on actual life, and perhaps not putting myself in the driving seat. For a while some years ago I kept finding myself in a previous car I'd had and it felt like my subconscious hadn't caught up with the fact I had a different car, that was until I had a dream where I sold that car, and then when I next had a car dream the car was up to date! This has since proven to not always been the case but it amused me at the time.

Anyway, no time for a jog or yoga today, but I got my usual round of language lessons done.

There wasn't too much rushing around to do since I'd both loaded my car up with things I needed to take to the recycling centre later, and packaged up a couple of ebay sales already. Some mornings like this I fail to get things packed the evening before, even though I know I should.

I posted those first, then stopped by a garage to put air in my car's front tyres (one loses air at the rim I think and the threads on the valve stem are somewhat worn making my own pump a challenge to use; the garage is quick and easy, and free to use - Thank you garage.

Then on to my client's house where I was stuck for a few hours waiting for a Windows upgrade to install, freeloading off their wifi while I waited for things to install.

I've been doing this for the past year, "borrowing" other people's wifi to download the various podcasts I listen to either while I get on with things at home, while I'm out walking for an hour, or while I go to sleep. It has been a year because it was then that I changed my broadband service, ditching the "through the phoneline" service in favour of using mobile broadband since these services work well enough and provide enough data. Originally I was making do with 50GB of data a month, but it was tight, so I would download stuff while I was at someone else's house. I've recently moved my service over to another provider and have a little bit more data to play with each month, but downloading stuff still gives me something to do, otherwise I'd just try and read a book but I don't like to blatantly do that in front of a client who is technically paying me by the hour, whereas downloading things can look more productive... I'm a little bit anxious now about how much I charged my client; this is something I have always struggled with while being self-employed. Inflation and everything else goes up, yet I feel like I'm charging people too much when I try and put my rates up...

Anyway, after the upgrade had installed I head off to the recycling centre where I had a boot (trunk) full of junk I'd accumulated since my last visit (having not had my car on the road for a while). The recycling centre guys are always of the type that like my car, and I appreciate that!

Then I had a frying pan to collect. I'd ordered it online from our trusty Argos, but I'd taken a gamble. I'd noticed recently that the handle on my current frying pan was becoming wonky, probably from being baked on my wood burning stove in the winter, so I wanted to have one ready waiting in the wings. I'd found a reasonably cheap one at Argos, paid for it, and went to collect it. The gamble was that I would then be going to Lidl to do my weekly shop and I'm aware that they sometimes have such things for sale... sure enough they did, and frustratingly for a couple of quid less, so I could have saved myself the extra few miles, time in ordering and collecting, and those £2 had I known (going to Lidl first would have been out of my way and I sort of needed to pre-order the pan to make sure it would be available). Oh well.

I grabbed the supplies I went into Lidl for and then headed off to a thrift shop I frequent as I had a circular saw to donate; I'd tried to list it on ebay but the UK has gone all stupid over the sale of "dangerous weapons" and even if I tried to list the saw without its blunt blade it was still being classed as such and I'd have to pay a hefty (yet unspecified) amount to post it, just like when I sold an electric hedge trimmer. I donated the saw since I'd recently sold an ipad they gave me which was worth about the same.

Whilst there I was handed a few things to check/take away/fix/sell, basically a bunch of cameras. One I handed back (an old point-and-shoot Fujifilm) for them to sell after I was able to put some charge in the battery and show it working, albeit with a blemish on the screen - I doubt it would have been worth me selling it on ebay. I did pilfer the memory card from it, but nothing interesting on it to share.

Oh, and there's also a funky radio that it is claimed doesn't work, so hopefully I can get it to work and have a chance to play around with it.

Back at home I had a parcel waiting for me, an ebay acquisition, but I can't be sure what!

The morning had been raining but as a nice surprise things brightened up by the afternoon so I first sat outside with a cup of tea before heading back in to make my meal and sit and watch some Camping with Steve.

I then head back outside to type all of this up, with yet another cup of tea. My head needs to wind down a bit after what was quite a busy day. I'll be sleeping in the tent tonight, although it might start raining overnight and through tomorrow. Oh well, much to get on with then.
