My
early experience of music came in
the form of a mix tape that my
step-dad obtained as being part of a
mobile disco (that's how my mum met
him). To be allowed to play
this cassette during my childhood was a special
privilege, and to avoid it wearing
out or getting chewed up in a player
(as I remember it doing at least
once, and much to my distress*) I had my
own copy (long since lost). This
cassette contains a treasure trove
of chart hits from the early 1980s/late
1970s - I feel a great sense of
nostalgia when I hear any of these
songs play on the radio today (as
they still do), and I imagine them
playing on their original vinyl and
being recorded to this cassette
during a 1980s disco. Click the image below to listen to versions of the tracks sourced on YouTube:
*for some reason I developed a phobia to chewed up cassette tape jammed in a player and always had to get my dad to untangle the mess from mine. |
