Day 11, According to Stellarium, the star Regulus of
the constellation Leo, would be passing behind the Moon at
around 7am on the 10th yesterday. Would I be able to see it?
It was a clear morning but due to the Moon being 66%
illuminated, it was pretty bright, and with the naked eye I
couldn't see any stars nearby; mostly just Jupiter ~120 degrees
to the right. I took some photos of the Moon anyway, with my
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30, off-and-on for about an hour (the time
it would take for Regulus to pass behind), but by 8am the sky
was brighter, and there was a little cloud passing by. However,
when I scrutinised the pictures on my computer later I found I
had indeed, I believe, captured Regulus:

7am; that faint dot to the left. It is seen
closer to the Moon ten minutes later:

That's the best I can do with
this camera. My old
Fujifilm was
better.
~20 years ago I got interested in astronomy (I
got interested in everything back then); I used to buy astronomy
magazines, and I learned to recognise a few constellations, but
I never had a telescope beyond a stupid toy I got one Christmas.
I'm a little tempted now, thinking about it *takes a
detour to ChatGPT, Amazon, and ebay...*, they're far more
affordable these days, but, no, I have my computer hoard to get
rid of, and a car to fix, before I take on anything new...
As the waning Moon enters Leo and briefly
occults Regulus, this is a moment for quiet reflection on
pride, confidence, visibility, and personal authenticity.
Rather than seeking the spotlight, the energy turns inward,
inviting a reassessment of what truly fuels your courage and
creativity. Hidden feelings around recognition or self-worth
may surface, offering a chance to release ego-driven concerns
and reconnect with what feels genuinely heartfelt. As the Moon
approaches its last-quarter phase [today], this inward clarity
helps prepare for a final letting-go, clearing space for a
renewed and more centred expression of self. - ChatGPT
